Where is the library and Circulation Desk?

The librarians, resources, Archives & Special Collections, and Circulation Desk have all been relocated to the Jacket Legacy Room on the second floor of the Student Union for the duration of the Library Renovation.

How do I renew an item?

You can renew books and other items by emailing, calling, stopping by the Circulation desk of the library, or renewing items through your online library account. Where do I pick up my Interlibrary Loan?

You can get your Interlibrary Loans at the Circulation Desk.

Can I check out a laptop?

Laptops are available at the circulation desk and they check out for 12 hours. The laptops do not leave the library. Power cords are available upon request.

My Professor put a book on reserve for my class. Where do I pick up reserve books?

Reserve items are located at the Circulation desk. Your professor sets the check-out period, from 2 HRS to 3 days. Most reserve items do not leave the library.

I lost something in the library; where can I go to find it?

We keep any lost items in a Lost & Found at the Circulation Desk.

Can I pay a fine using my Buzz card?

You can pay fines with your Buzz card at the Circulation Desk.

Can I put money on my Buzz card?

You can deposit money on your Buzz Card with cash with a self-service kiosk by the front doors. You can also add money at the Circulation desk with cash, credit/debit card, or check.

Can I print in the Library?

Every computer in the Library has the B&W and Color printers installed. If you would like to print from your personal laptop, you can use the installers located at

I would like the library to purchase a book; how do I make the request?

Requests for the library to purchase books, DVDs, and other material can be sent to Sara Freng, at or 605-642-6358.

How do I place materials on reserve?

You will need to fill out the form and return it to our Circulation Librarian. Please refer to our resources page for more information.

Does the University offer any Library programs?

Black Hills State University offers a Library Media Minor, as well as an Endorsement. Please see this page for details.

What is my username/password to log into the online catalog (Primo)?

If you are a current student, faculty, or staff at BHSU, your username is your BH email address. Use the same password that you use for your email. If you do not remember your password, you can reset it at

If you are a local patron, your username is your Library Card number. If you have never logged in before, or if you forgot your password, you can have a reset link sent to the email address you signed up with: The reset page will ask for either your library card number or the email address you provided on your library card application.

If you do not have this information or did not provide a valid email address with your application, please contact Circulation.

How many reserve items can I check out?

You can check out a total of five reserve items at one time.
